The level of clothes in winter is somewhat debatable… when you are older, you wear more and keep them on so even though you young people are warm, the rest of us may have a chill… a circulation issue as one ages… people in general wear more clothes in winter, just in case and because of large variances in temperature from dawn to dusk… so it depends on how long you may be away from home… always better to be prepared… a sudden rain can drop temperatures 10 degrees… wind can drop temperatures… these other Parisans probably have more experience of being “caught” with not enough warmth vs you “rookies”…

    Dark clothes in winter are normal… fits the mood of the climate and the sky… short daylight time, etc…
